FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The Nova Southeastern University tennis team begins its spring slate against the St. Thomas Bobcats Saturday, Feb. 12 at 1 pm in Miami Shores, Fla.
“I’m really looking for our team and individual players to stand out in this match,” head coach Michael Coleman said.
The Sharks have proved to play St. Thomas well in recent years, owning a perfect 4-0 all-time record while rolling by the Bobcats last season, 8-1, winning all of their doubles matches and 4-of-5 singles matches.
NSU looks to have strong play from team captain
Dominique Wimmer (Jr., Guntramsdorf, Austria) who transferred from Florida Atlantic last season and will play in the No. 1 slot tomorrow.
NSU returns senior
Paige Lindsley (Albuquerque, N.M.) who is expected to perform well this season and will play in the No. 4 spot tomorrow. Lindsley posted the best singles record on the team last year at 10-6, while also recording the most wins in doubles play on the team with 12.
The singles 1-6 slots comprise of only two returners in Lindsley and sophomore
Blake Bauer (Miami, Fla.) but will showcase previous Division I talent in Wimmer, sophomore
Austin Lavallii (Williamston, Mich.) from Texas El Paso and senior
Oksana Krutiyenko (Novo Kahovka, Ukraine) from Maryland.
The three doubles teams will be Wimmer and
Justine Feaster (Jr., Carrollton, Texas) in the No. 1 slot. Two freshman team up at No. 2 with
Daria Burobina (Moscow, Russia) and
Kamryn Blackwood (Farmington, N.M.), while doubles will be rounded out by Lindsley and Lavalli in the No. 3 slot.
St. Thomas enters Saturday after facing off against Southeastern the day before. The Bobcats carry two seniors while the rest are in their first and second years at the collegiate level. STU tallied a 3-11 record last season, winning all three matches on its home court.
In twelve seasons, the Sharks have compiled an 8-4 record in opening matches.
